Spring Intramural Sports

January 19, 2006 12:41 PM

Welcome back everyone.

Continuing our proud athletic tradition in Cinema Studies, there are at least two team sports we are currently recruiting players for Cinema Studies teams.

Co-Ed Softball

(Signup before February 13 :: Play begins on Sunday, March 5, East River Park :: softball@cinematologists.com)

It started with a dream in 2002. Charley Leary sent around a few emails and the Straayer's Playaz were born. We've come a long way since we had to forfeit our first season because we could only get six players on the field. Last year, we convincingly won our only game by a score of 9-2. Our season was cut short due to several rainouts that made running the tournament impossible.

This season starts a month earlier than usual. Games take place on Sundays (usually very early) at the softball fields at East River Park. Play begins on Sunday, March 5. For more information on our proud softball team, visit our website at http://www.cinematologists.com/softball. Signups begin immediately at http://www.cinematologists.com/softball/signup/ and continue until February 13.

Indoor Soccer: Men's and Women's Teams

(Signup before February 13 :: Play begins on Monday, March 20, Chelsea Piers :: soccer@cinematologists.com)

Last fall, we launched our first ever men's outdoor soccer team, La Mano de Dios. We played two games in October and almost won one of them. Admittedly, it was a poor start for our budding franchise, but we're hoping to get another team together for the indoor spring league so that we can improve. Additionally, we would like to launch a women's team. (We tried organizing one in the fall, but only three women expressed any interest.)

The teams would play 5x5 with a goalie on an indoor soccer field at Chelsea Piers. The league begins play on Monday, March 20.

More information is available at http://www.cinematologists.com/soccer/indoor/information.shtml. If you're ready to play for either team, you can sign up right now at http://www.cinematologists.com/soccer/indoor/signup.shtml no later than February 13. (Also, the women's team needs a captain.)
