Film Contest

The Graduate Students of the Department of Italian Studies want to offer the chance to young filmmakers of screening their shorts at the Casa Italian Zerilli-Marimo'. The rationale behind the event is dictated by a genuine interest in learning about the perception of Italian Culture abroad through the eyes of young artists. The contest is to take place in the April 2006. The Graduate Students, as a committee, will select the short films that will be submitted and they will lead the discussion that will follow the screenings. We are looking for local, national and international film & video shorts of all genres including: experimental, animation, documentary, narrative, music video, computer generated, etc. The works must be associated with aspects of Italian or Italian-American culture. They can or cannot be shot in Italy, contain Italian language or situations, feature Italian crew-members, and so forth. The films cannot be longer than 60 minutes.

Submissions are not limited to producers or directors. Screenwriters, editors, camera people, sound designers, actors, technicians are all encouraged to submit work they have been involved in. Please specify in a typed bio. DVD (any region) and VHS formats (PAL and NTSC) are preferred. Copies will not be returned.

Works will be selected by a committee of Graduate Students, and the winners will be invited to present their work at the screening. There will be a monetary prize for the best work.
